How To Create A YouTube Channel – 2022 Beginner’s Guide

When creating a YouTube channel, there are some settings that you need to know about. So I wanted to make this content to show you a very step-by-step guide on how to set up a YouTube channel correctly, so you could be successful down the road.

Some of these settings are a little bit hidden and the first time I created my channel, I set a few things up incorrectly and it took me a long time to figure out how to fix it. So I created a very simple Seven Step Process here.

Step 1: Create a Google account

In order to have a YouTube account, you need a google account. Google is the company that owns YouTube, so they’re all in one. Basically, if you already have a Gmail, if you use google docs, for example, or if you already have a YouTube account, you’ve already done this first step.

Once you sign in to your existing or new YouTube channel,  press the profile picture up there. it’s gonna allow you to create a channel now that you have an account, so go ahead and  press create a channel from this page now.

Whatever you decide for your channel name, you would put that there and you could upload a profile picture, but I’ll do this on the next step, but I usually consider this step two: creating a channel name which you could always change.

So don’t worry too much about that on here, because we could change it on the next page, but go ahead and press create and once you create your channel, it’s gonna just bring you right into your channel name, here under the home page and from here,. You could upload your videos, but there are some very important settings that most people miss here.

So let me walk you step by step on what to do at this point. Now that you have a YouTube channel. What you want to do is you want to press your profile picture right up here again and you want to go into YouTube studio.

This is YouTube creator studio, and this is your channel’s dashboard. This is basically all the information that you’re going to have about your channel that other people can’t see. This is the back end of your channel. You’re gonna do a lot of different things here.

Step 3: Verify your YouTube Channel

Firstly, Click on the “Settings” option. Right here now under the settings. There is one thing you want to change right away: Under Settings click on “Channel” option and Click on “Feature Eligibility“ okay and by default you’re not going to upload longer videos until you verify your accounts.

By default basic info page will be opened.

Then click on the “Eligible” option

List of things that you can do after verifying the channel will be appeared and Verify Phone number option will appear. Click on Verify phone number and it’s gonna ask for your country and phone number and it will send you a code. You will receive a 6 digit verification code on the mobile number that you have entered. Then Click on Submit Button.

After this you will see, Congratulations! Your YouTube account is now verified.

Step 4: YouTube channel customization

Now this is a very critical step, because if you don’t set up your channel the right way when people view your content, they may not really see a reason to subscribe.

click Customize channel. Go through the three tabs — LayoutBranding and Basic Info — to enter information that will help optimize your channel for audience discovery.

When filling out this information, use descriptive keywords that will help your account appear in searches. Keywords can include your channel’s topics, your industry, questions your content can answer or products featured.

Step 5: Channel branding

Click on the branding page and before you tell anybody about your YouTube channel, I recommend you create a nice profile picture and upload there to give your channel a unique look. One that, ideally, aligns with your overall brand and visually connects this YouTube account with your other social media platforms and web presence.

Step 6: Channel basic info

There is a little description section where you tell people what your channel is all about. This will help you get found in search and it will help you turn viewers into subscribers.

You definitely want to add something here. You also could add links at the link section to drive people to your other social media profiles or to your website, you could add up to five different links here on your YouTube channel and if you want people to contact you for any reason, you could go ahead and add an email on the very bottom of this page, but don’t rush This basic info – this is very critical. A lot of people learn about your channel from this box over there.

Step 7: Upload your first YouTube video

Well, this is exciting. You’re on the cusp of becoming a YouTube content creator! I’m not crying, you’re crying.

To put your first video out into the world, hit the Create button in the top-right corner and follow the instructions.
